Saints at Heart presents an engaging picture of the spiritual life as shown in the experience and writings of the saints. The title announces the book’s double theme: the lives of holy men and women who have consecrated their lives to God, and to the possibility of our following them and also dedicating our hearts to God. Readers will discover in this book well-told and appealing stories of women and men, ordinary human beings like themselves, who knew God and whose lives as a consequence radiated light, love, and joy. Each story presents the core message of a saint’s life and highlights an important spiritual path that readers will be encouraged to follow.

Written by Bert Ghezzi

Praise

Ghezzi reminds us that the saints speak to our hearts to teach and lead us to a more intimate relationship with God, filled with all the ‘stuff’ of holiness: openness to God, challenge, conversion, prayerfulness, faith, hope, love, joy, compassion, and perseverance—through thick and thin.
J. Peter Sartain, Archbishop of Seattle
Many books tell the stories of saints, but Saints at Heart tells the story of their holiness—what made them saints. And so it fulfills the best reason for reading about saints: to inspire us on our own path to holiness. Through skillful portraits of figures as diverse as Aelred of Riveaulx and Dorothy Day, Bert Ghezzi shows us that the saints were complex, imperfect people like ourselves—who didn’t let their imperfections stand in the way of loving God and their neighbors. It is impossible to read this book without asking the question: What if I were to do the same?
Robert Ellsberg, author of All Saints and Blessed Among Us
Bert Ghezzi has an unparalleled ability to make the reader long to emulate the goodness and virtue displayed by the ‘holy heroes’ of the faith. In Saints at Heart, his impeccable research combined with penetrating insight and practical advice have resulted in a book, not just to read, but to literally take to heart.
Woodeene Koenig-Bricker, author of 365 Saints and 365 Mary
"The lives of the saints fascinate us because they are our older siblings who can show us what is possible. In Saints at Heart, Bert Ghezzi introduces us to ten saints that demonstrate what seeking holiness looks like in everyday life. Not only is this book informative and inspiring but it will transform your daily life by imprinting your heart with the desire to be a saint.
Chris Stewart, Co-Founder of Castings Nets Ministries, author of Casting Nets with the Saints
Perhaps now, more than ever before, the Church is in need of saints. Saints at Heart is an accessible, informative and inspiring read for anyone desiring holiness. Not only will this book inspire your faith, but it will also introduce you to ten new friends along the way.
Fr. Damian J. Ference, author of The Strangeness of Truth
A beautiful, accessible book! Using down-to-earth, engaging language, Ghezzi culls valuable lessons from an assortment of saints, ushering these heroes of the Church right into your living room. These pages make it clear that his goal in writing the book is the growth in holiness of his readers.
Steve Dawson, President, St. Paul Evangelization Institute
