Lighthouse Confirmation Peer Ministry Program

The Lighthouse Program forms older, previously Confirmed high school students as peer ministers to accompany younger candidates (ages 10-16) to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation as part of a broader preparation process. It is about befriending, caring for, and helping Confirmation candidates celebrate their Confirmation in ways that encourage them to begin their journey into adult faith.

It offers a compelling model for preparing older teens for ministry leadership, helping them transition into an adult role in the church. It can especially help dioceses that are lowering the age of confirmation to continue to engage older youth in ministry.

The curriculum includes four components, each sold as a separate booklet:

Peer ministers will gather for eight to ten leadership training sessions:

The trained youth leaders will then lead Confirmation candidates in five peer ministry sessions:

Note that this is not a comprehensive preparation program, but is meant to be used in conjunction with a wider Confirmation program.

“If you’re searching for a meaningful way to energize your Confirmation program, this is exactly what you’ve been waiting for. The Lighthouse Program offers a powerful and practical approach to forming young disciples who are ready to lead. It equips recently confirmed youth to step forward, share their faith, and accompany candidates on their journey. Instead of simply talking about discipleship, it puts it into action—creating authentic connections that resonate.”
