Its step by step approach provides a foundation from Scripture followed by a meditative exercise and response that allows the lay person to more deeply come to grips with both the basic elements of the Easter experience and calls them to action as they become a part of the call to mission. The volume easily could serve as a personal devotion or discipline and is also adaptable for small groups. It encourages without being overwhelming.
As a Protestant with Catholic roots this book will be an important addition to my preparation for Holy Week. It provides the missing focus that can move us beyond the ritual to actual prayer, reflection on Scripture and focused action out into the world. Fr. Mark G. Boyer, a retired priest of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Missouri, is the author of fifty books, including three editions of The Liturgical Environment, on biblical and liturgical spirituality. He continues as a part-time instructor in the Religious Studies Department of Missouri State University, Springfield, where he has taught courses in New Testament and Bible and Film for twenty-eight years. His other books include the following titles: Praying Your Way through Luke's Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, An Abecedarian of Animal Spirit Guides: Spiritual Growth through Reflections on Creatures, and Overcome with Paschal Joy: Chanting through Lent and Easter-Daily Reflections with Familiar Hymns.
