T-minus ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 .. BLAST OFF! With a roar, the space shuttle Endeavour was launched into space. But when Astronaut Tom Jones left the earth, he didn't leave Jesus behind! Tom Jones was one of three Catholic crew members on NASA mission STS-59 who received permission to bring the Blessed Sacrament with them on their 1994 expedition.

In this one-of-a-kind children's book for ages 4-8, author Cecilia Cicone and artist Gabhor Utomo narrate the adventures of Astronaut Tom and his companions, and how the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist accompanied them on their mission. Features full-color photographs and a timeline of NASA space shuttle mission STS-59; catechesis on the Eucharist and Eucharistic Adoration; and a special message from Astronaut Tom to inspire young adventurers to be courageous in faith and secure in the truth of God's love for them! Winner of a 2024 Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) Excellence in Publishing award

Praise

Highly recommend for first communicants. My daughter will be receiving her First Holy Communion in two months and this book was such a great addition to her preparations. She really enjoys the story and illustrations. I am pleased with how engaging this book has been for her. Kid-tested, mother-approved!

I had NO idea! What a cool story! I had no idea that an astronaut brought the Eucharist into space in a pyx. The story is well written and I'm looking forward to sharing it with 2 special young people in my life. I like the timeline across the bottom of the pages and the "More to Know...." section at the end about the Eucharist.
