Jesus: A Portrait

An informed, inspirational portrayal of the one who launched the path followed by billions over the course of two millennia.

In this much-needed book, Father Gerald O'Collins brings together a lifetime of discipleship, prayer, and scholarship. The reader finds each of these attributes of a beloved theologian richly on display in twelve chapters with titles such as "God's Kingdom in Person," "Jesus the Healer," "The Story-Teller," "The Teacher," "Facing Death," and "The Abiding Presence." In a work filled with wisdom and insight, the reader gains new perspective on such perennial treasures as the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer. O'Collins writes with a heart that knows the struggle of his contemporaries to find an anchor in a tumultuous world. And he knows that the call of Jesus is not to a life lived apart from that tumult. Instead, the portrait he draws is of one who gives us the courage to be in the world.
