Offering solace and encouragement to those who grieve is a critical aspect of the church's ministry of mercy and love. To find your place within grief ministry and plan this important ministry from first response to spiritual guidance, there is no better mentor than Fr. Terence Curley. In this guide, Fr. Curley pays attention to all of the factors contributing to a grief minister's multifaceted work, including parish support and his or her own loss history. Symptoms of loss, trust, and hints for conversations with the grieving are topics touched by this detailed and sensitive guide. This book, a fully revised edition of Fr. Curley's earlier book The Ministry of Consolers, is a necessary tool for parishes, hospices, educational institutions, and all those attending to the bereaved.

Praise

Thank you, Fr. Terrence, for a new perspective like no other. Effective grief ministry is indeed potent medicine and your book and "Ministry Toolbox" at each chapter's conclusion brings into focus how a grief minister can become a powerful healing presence. This is an absolute essential in the library of anyone who counsels the bereaved. I am recommending this to the CCC and our Catholic Cemeteries staff.
Andrew P. Schafer, K.H.S., CCCE, President, Catholic Cemetery Conference, and Executive Director, Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark
Our faith tradition is a great gift, a treasure that we have to support those dealing with grief. Training in grief ministry is an important need in our parishes and in our communities. This is an area in which the laity, religious, deacons, and clergy join together to support those who are dealing with loss. Rev. Terence Curley's book Grief Ministry is an important contribution updating us on the newest research in the field with helpful practical application and insight for all of those in this important ministry.
Dr. Aldona Lingertat, Director of the Master of Arts in Ministry Program, Saint John's Seminary, Brighton, MA
Offering comfort and compassion to the grieving heart is clearly seen in Fr. Curley's thoughtful approach to helping those who minister to the grieving. Grief Ministry offers insightful and spiritual advice to help the bereaved journey towards a new life without their loved one. Comprehensive in his approach, this book is a vital resource for all those involved in grief ministry.
