David Haas

David Haas is from Eagan, Minnesota where he is the director of The Emmaus Center for Music, Prayer and Ministry, in addition to serving on the Campus Ministry team and as Animator for the Taize’ Prayer Community at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Highly regarded as one of the pre-eminent composers of liturgical music in the English-speaking world, he has produced and published over 50 collections and recordings with GIA Publications and his music has been translated into many languages and appears in hymnals of various Christian denominations throughout the world. David’s most recent music collections and recordings with GIA include: God Is Everywhere!; The Rosary With St. James; and I Will Live On (giamusic.com); and in 1991 he was nominated for a Grammy Award for I Shall See God (GIA).  David is the founder and executive director for Music Ministry Alive!, an international liturgical music formation institute for high school and college age youth (www.musicministryalive.com), and has travelled extensively as a workshop presenter and concert performer in all 50 states, as well as Canada, Australia, The Bahamas, England, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Israel, Greece and Turkey.  He is a collector of icons and also the author of over 25 books in the areas of liturgy, religious education, youth ministry and spirituality, most recently, three books from Clear Faith Publishing: Welcome, Faithful Presence: A Week of Praying the Hours with Henri Nouwen; Blessed Are the Merciful: Stations to Celebrate the Way of Mercy;” and “Walk With Christ: Celebrating the Way of the Nativity, the Cross and the Resurrection” (clearfaithpublishing.com). In 2015 David was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of Portland in Oregon.
