This lovely, large-format children's book features gorgeous colored illustrations on every page and a story with giggles and a message that each young reader or listener can take to heart. We see much goodwill and generosity as Sorenson develops her theme: everyone has something to offer others, and it is often 'right under our noses.' The setting is Christmas in medieval times, but the story is timeless.
This delightful story is one of courage, bravery and generosity . . . would make a great read-aloud story for school children in early grades.
Many values are demonstrated in Ambrose, compassion, perseverance and initiative, and could easily lend themselves as a resource to a values curriculum. The delightful protagonist never gives up, never thinks too small, and never thinks of himself first. I've read this to my second graders and they loved the story. A true delight!
I was enchanted by Margo Sorenson's delightful story, Ambrose and the Princess. The earnest and clever little mouse Ambrose, with his determination to find a way to make the princess happy, will surely win the hearts of many readers! The lush illustrations exquisitely detailing medieval dress, customs, and architecture and the artist's lavish use of bold primary colors are the perfect accompaniment to this charming tale of courage, wit, and resolve.

Margo Sorenson is the author of over twenty-five books for young readers. She has received recognition and awards from various groups, including the American Library Association.
Katalin Szegedi has been the recipient of many awards for her illustrations including the 2005 Hungarian Illustrator of the Year award and the Hungarian equivalent to the Caldecott Medal in 2001 and 2003. She has also been recognized by the Catholic Book Association for The Weight of a Mass (Gingerbread House; also distributed by Liturgical Press). She is the illustrator for the forthcoming Ambrose the Mouse book by Margo Sorenson, Ambrose and the Cathedral Dream, from Liturgical Press.
