A stunning visual and written reflection on the classic tradition of praying the Stations of the Cross.
During a sabbatical, artist Louise Tessier discovered Fr. Thomas Stanley's meditations on the Stations of the Cross that connect scriptural verses to symbolic flowers and plants. His descriptive text and accompanying scripture passages presented her with a new way of viewing the traditional practice of reflecting on the suffering and death of Jesus.
Rather than make figurative plaques for the walls of a parish church, Tessier created ceramic tiles that focus on Stanley's botanical imagery. Collected in this book are the stunning images of each of these stations along with prayerful meditations and the plant's symbolic relation to the station. Through these vibrant images and evocative reflections we go on a botanical journey through Jesus' life-giving death and resurrection.
Fr. Thomas Stanley, SM, STD, was a Marianist priest who has ministered to communities around the world, from Rome to Zambia.
Louise Tessier is a multi-disciplinary artist who has been working primarily in ceramics since 1998. A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan and former elementary teacher, Tessier continues to share her vivid spirituality through the splendours of art.
