In Times of Caregiving: Prayers of Renewal and Restoration

Caregivers are loving, generous, and courageous, and it is important that caregivers also take time to rest their own bodies, renew their minds, and nurture their spirits. In Times of Caregiving offers caregivers a simple way to pray, a way to reconnect with God`s love and presence. Each chapter focuses on issues and emotions that trouble caregivers: fatigue, fear, uncertainty, loneliness, gratefulness, anger, crises, the need to see Christ, guilt, praying for others. Whether you are caregiver or want to share the gift and power of prayer with one who is caring for another, In Times of Caregiving offers a restorative blend of scriptural, classic, and contemporary prayers and reflections.

Praise

I received this book from my sister-in-law in the spring of 2006. Since then this book has comforted me, brought me peace, given me insight and has been a blessing to me through its scripture.

I have been caring for my husband of 48 years since his diagnosis of tongue cancer in December 2004. This long journey has had starts and stops and peaks and valleys.

Over the past two years I have experienced each and every emotion described in the book by Robert Hamma. I could only accept my anger after I read the passages about anger and my resulting guilt. I understood my loneliness because each word described my sense of loneliness as a result of my husband's poor communication skills.

In Times of Caregiving never leaves my bedside. It is part of my life along with my Grateful Journal which I continue to write in daily. I have recommended and bought this book for the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada with the knowledge that the reader will find solace and help within its text.
